Middle School Program

The young people in our program enjoyed you and your presentation immensely.
I must admit some skepticism in anyone’s ability to entertain this age group (middle schoolers) with simple acoustic instruments and singing, but you were terrific! Your audience was involved and entertained for the full hour. Amazing!

Susana and Timmy Abell have presented middle-school programs throughout their touring career.   Their concert is richly varied  ~  blending original and traditional songs, an 8-minute European style puppet fable accompanied by hammered dulcimer, other rare musical instruments including bowed psaltery, English concertina, and Appalachian limberjack, and captivating age-appropriate storytelling.

In illustrating that there are "So Many Ways To Share A Story", the program combines music, storytelling and puppetry in a very compelling and unique experience, all tied to the cultural component across the Common Core and Essential Standards for middle school. Themes can be adjusted for various topics including a focus on North Carolina history and folk traditions, international musical influences on American music, or the art and practice of storytelling.

Susana and Timmy's concerts are highly engaging and uplifting, involving the students in almost every piece ~ and although the middle school age group may not initially think that puppetry, folk music and storytelling are captivating, they are invariably drawn in to a deep appreciation of their natural connection to it...

Experience has shown that students will leave this performance with interesting connections to their prior knowledge, a deep sense of inquiry and a most likely, a feeling of inspiration.
