Susana Abell Art
I have always made things. I have worked as a professional performing and teaching artist for many years. When we are not on stage or on the road, I cherish the quiet contemplative space of my art studio and the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us here in the Blue Ridge mountains.
I'm honored to join 30 fellow artists in the Annual Beaverdam Studio Tour!
Saturday October 27th 10:00 - 5:00
Sunday October 28th Noon - 5:00
I will have art for sale and will be conducting demos of the encaustic printing process. Come visit!
The reliquaries are an outgrowth of my years in Colombia, South America where shrines are common and the strands of religion, superstition, and magic seem to braid themselves together without much effort.
The encaustic mono prints are inspired by the mountain landscapes that surround me. I am lucky to see the ridge lines every day, whether ethereal or impenetrable, every day they have something new to say, always unique to the moment.
The gathered words are an exercise in creating meaning from simplicity. Formed from vintage children’s flash cards and foraged bits of nature, they are strung together into hanging poems that, hopefully, uplift and inspire.
